Brasserie Blanc, Royal George Building, Regent Street, Knutsford , Cheshire, WA16 6GR

Immortalised in Elizabeth Gaskell’s Cranford, the Royal George dates back to the 14th century. From 1653 it was called the George and Dragon, a lively and important coaching inn and became the Royal George in 1832 after a visit by Queen Victoria and her mother the Duchess of Kent.

Brasserie Blanc occupies the ground floor of the former hotel. The refurbishment reinstated two of the building’s original fireplaces and preserved the 18th century staircase which Elizabeth Gaskell would have used when visiting the Royal George first floor ballroom.

Brasserie Blanc will be hosting ‘Table magic in the style of Signor Brunoni’ because, in Elizabeth Gaskell’s Cranford, Signor Brunoni performs his magic in the Royal George Assembly Rooms – and causes quite a stir. This event will aim to recreate the magic, in the same building!
